Rebeca Peral recuerda su etapa al frente de la concejalía de Igualdad en el Ayuntamineto de San Sebastián de los Reyes con la satisfacción de haber intentado acercar las políticas de igualdad al mayor número posible de vecinos y vecinas. “Intenté llegar a la mayor población posible de San Sebastián de los Reyes, sensibilizando sobre la importancia que tiene la igualdad entre hombres y mujeres y lo que nos beneficia a ambos géneros”, explica.
En su balance personal, considera que ese objetivo se logró en parte gracias al contacto directo con la ciudadanía. Según señala, todavía hoy muchas personas con las que coincidió durante su etapa institucional mantienen ese compromiso. “Tengo la fortuna de que cuando me encuentro con muchas mujeres y personas que conocí durante esa trayectoria siguen teniendo ese cariño y esa fuerza de seguir luchando por la igualdad”, afirma.
Una jornada de unión y reivindicación
Para Peral, el 8 de marzo sigue siendo una fecha fundamental para recordar que los derechos conseguidos no son irreversibles. “Es un día para luchar por los derechos que ya tenemos y por los que todavía quedan por alcanzar”, explica.
La abogada insiste en que el contexto internacional demuestra que algunos avances pueden ponerse en cuestión, por lo que considera necesario mantener la movilización social. En su opinión, el 8M representa también la unión del movimiento feminista y la creación de redes de apoyo entre mujeres. “Es la unión de las feministas, esa red social que creamos entre nosotras, la sororidad, la lucha y la defensa de los derechos, y sobre todo la defensa de la igualdad entre hombres y mujeres”, subraya.
De cara al futuro
Peral considera que uno de los desafíos más importantes en los próximos años está relacionado con el impacto de las redes sociales y de internet en los jóvenes. En particular, alerta sobre la difusión de bulos y el uso del cuerpo de las mujeres en estos espacios digitales. “Debemos defender a las niñas y niños que vienen por detrás, porque pueden acceder a contenidos muy violentos a edades muy tempranas”, advierte, en referencia al acceso a pornografía y a determinados modelos que pueden generar problemas en la percepción de las relaciones y la igualdad.
Además, señala que siguen existiendo retos estructurales como la igualdad salarial y la corresponsabilidad familiar. “Todavía tenemos una tarea pendiente en la igualdad salarial y en la corresponsabilidad en el ámbito familiar”, afirma. En su opinión, estos aspectos son fundamentales para que las mujeres tengan las mismas oportunidades que los hombres en el acceso a puestos de responsabilidad y en el reconocimiento de su trabajo. También recuerda que muchos sectores tradicionalmente feminizados continúan siendo los peor valorados y los peor remunerados.
Para finalizar, Peral lanza un mensaje de optimismo a la ciudadanía de San Sebastián de los Reyes en un momento que describe como “algo oscuro” para la igualdad en algunos ámbitos. “Si nos unimos, podemos seguir manteniendo los derechos conseguidos y acceder a otros nuevos para que esa desigualdad desaparezca tanto en el terreno laboral como en el familiar”, afirma.
La exconcejala también destaca la importancia de que la voz de las mujeres y del movimiento feminista siga escuchándose para avanzar hacia una sociedad más justa y para seguir combatiendo la violencia de género. En este 8 de marzo, concluye, la igualdad sigue siendo un objetivo común que requiere el compromiso de toda la sociedad.
